Morocco’s passport ranked 67th globally in the latest Henley Passport Index, giving its holders access to 71 destinations without obtaining a visa in advance.
The July 2026 ranking places Morocco first in the Maghreb, ahead of Tunisia in 72nd place and Algeria in 82nd. Mauritania and Libya ranked 83rd and 94th respectively. The index counts destinations offering visa-free entry, a visa on arrival or an electronic travel authorisation.
Singapore retained the world’s top position with access to 192 destinations, while the United Arab Emirates climbed three places since January to share second place with Japan and South Korea. Holders of those passports can travel to 188 destinations without securing a prior visa.
Israel ranked 18th globally, while the Gulf countries continued to hold the Middle East and North Africa region’s strongest positions after the UAE.
At the bottom of the index, Afghanistan remained last with access to 22 destinations, widening the mobility gap between the world’s strongest and weakest passports to a record 170 destinations.
The latest edition marks 20 years of the Henley index, which uses data from the International Air Transport Association and covers 199 passports and 227 travel destinations.
Henley said the average passport now provides access to 108 destinations without a prior visa, nearly double the 58 recorded when the index was launched in 2006.
The UAE recorded the largest improvement over the two decades, adding 153 destinations and rising from the middle of the ranking to second place. By contrast, the United States fell from first place in 2006 to 10th, while Britain dropped from third to sixth.
Henley said passport strength reflects not only stability and prosperity but also diplomatic influence, reciprocal travel agreements and countries’ ability to build international partnerships.
