Morocco’s consumer price index (CPI) rose 0.3% year-on-year in June, as lower food prices largely offset higher costs for non-food items, the High Commission for Planning (HCP) said on Tuesday.

Food prices fell **2.3%** from a year earlier, while non-food prices increased **2.3%**, with transport recording the largest rise at **6.7%**. Communication prices declined **0.3%** over the same period.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell **0.4%** in June after food prices dropped **0.8%** and non-food prices edged down **0.2%**.

The biggest monthly declines were recorded for vegetables, down 5.2%, followed by milk, cheese and eggs (-1.9%). Fish and seafood prices rose 3.4%, while fruit prices increased 0.8%. Fuel prices declined 2.9% compared with May.

Core inflation, which excludes volatile and regulated prices, rose 0.2% from May but slipped 0.1% from a year earlier, indicating subdued underlying price pressures, the HCP said.
