Zinedine Zidane has signed a contract to coach France through June 2030, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported on Instagram on Tuesday, July 21, although the French Football Federation has not yet confirmed the appointment.

Zidane, 54, is expected to be formally presented within days and begin work on September 1, according to L’Équipe, replacing Didier Deschamps after his 14-year tenure ended following the 2026 World Cup.

Deschamps led France to the 2018 World Cup title, the 2022 final and the 2021 Nations League trophy.

Zidane has not coached since leaving Real Madrid in 2021. Across two spells at the Spanish club, he won three consecutive Champions League titles and two La Liga championships.

As a player, Zidane helped France win the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 before ending his international career after the 2006 World Cup final.
