A central committee from Morocco’s Ministry of Health and Social Protection carried out an extensive field visit to the Regional Specialty Hospital in Tetouan, informed sources told Hespress, as authorities seek to address technical and operational shortcomings at the facility.
The delegation, which included officials from the ministry’s Directorate of Equipment and Maintenance, toured several medical and technical units and held a series of meetings with administrative and technical officials from Tetouan’s regional health authority. The visit, which lasted until late in the day, aimed to assess existing deficiencies, identify priority needs and develop a plan for urgent interventions to improve the hospital’s readiness.
According to the sources, the committee inspected a number of critical facilities and services, including patient elevators, the hospital’s CT scanner, the sterilization unit, the pneumatic transport system, laboratory and blood bank equipment, as well as the operational status of the MRI machine.
The assessment also covered the needs of the ambulance fleet and the neonatal care unit, in addition to exploring ways to strengthen coordination between Saniat Rmel Hospital and the Regional Specialty Hospital.
The visit comes amid longstanding concerns raised by the National Union of Public Health, which has repeatedly called for intervention from central authorities to address technical failures, complete the equipment of hospital departments and improve both working conditions for healthcare staff and the quality of services provided to patients.
The ministry’s move follows a sectoral social dialogue session held last Thursday, facilitated by local authorities and the provincial administration in Tetouan, which helped ease tensions within the hospital.
The visit signals a shift from labor protests to a phase focused on diagnosis and on-the-ground solutions. However, the success of the process will depend on whether the findings are translated into a concrete action plan outlining priorities, implementation timelines and budget allocations, with the goal of improving healthcare services and working conditions for medical personnel.
