Bayern Munich signed Morocco international Ismael Saibari from PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday, securing the 25-year-old attacking midfielder on a contract through June 2031.

The German champions did not disclose the transfer fee, although media reports valued the deal at up to €55 million. PSV described the move as a club-record sale.

Saibari will join Bayern after Morocco completes its World Cup campaign in North America and will wear the No. 34 shirt.

The Spain-born midfielder scored in each of Morocco’s three group-stage matches, becoming the first African player to achieve the feat at a single World Cup. He also converted a penalty as Morocco eliminated the Netherlands in the round of 32.

Saibari joined PSV from Genk in 2020 and developed into a central figure for the Dutch club, recording 42 goals and 29 assists in 142 appearances.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said the club had tracked Saibari’s development and moved early to present him with a clear role.

Saibari said coach Vincent Kompany played a major part in his decision and described signing for Bayern as a childhood ambition.

The midfielder won three consecutive Dutch league titles with PSV and brings Champions League experience, versatility and an increasingly strong scoring record to Bayern’s attack.
