The municipality of The Hague is preparing additional security measures ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup match between the Netherlands and Morocco, which will be played in Mexico and broadcast locally overnight from Monday, June 29, to Tuesday, June 30, starting at 3 a.m.

City authorities said they aim to ensure the evening unfolds safely and have coordinated preparations with police, emergency services, including firefighters and ambulance crews, local volunteers, youth workers, shopping district supervisors, residents and business owners.

Temporary surveillance cameras will also be installed in busy public areas to help monitor crowds during the event.

After the match, the municipality said it will evaluate the measures taken to identify what worked well and what could be improved for future World Cup fixtures.

Hospitality businesses classified as Category 2 (medium risk), including cafés, may be eligible to remain open later than usual during the match.

The municipality said eligible businesses can apply for an exceptional night exemption, commonly referred to as an extension of opening hours. Businesses may request the exemption free of charge up to 12 times per year.

Although applications are normally required at least seven working days in advance, the municipality said it will continue processing requests for the Monday-to-Tuesday match night until Monday, June 29.
