Hespress increased its weekly online reach by seven percentage points to 52% in 2026, retaining its position as Morocco’s most widely used digital news brand, according to the Reuters Institute Digital News Report.

The figure rose from 45% in the 2025 edition, placing Hespress well ahead of its nearest competitors. Hibapress ranked second with a weekly reach of 29%, followed by Chouf TV at 26%, 2M Online at 25% and Al Jazeera Online at 24%.

The survey also recorded an increase in trust in Hespress. Sixty-seven percent of respondents familiar with the outlet said they trusted its news, compared with 62% a year earlier.

The proportion expressing distrust fell by four percentage points, while the share taking a neutral position declined from 20% to 17%.

The findings come as Morocco’s news market becomes increasingly shaped by websites, social media platforms and messaging applications rather than traditional media hierarchies alone.

The proportion of respondents who said they shared news through social media, messaging services or email rose seven points to 36%, according to the report.

Concern over false or misleading information remained high, with 54% of respondents saying they worried about distinguishing reliable news from misinformation online.

Television nevertheless continued to attract large audiences. The report placed 2M first among television, radio and print brands, with a weekly reach of 39%, followed by Al Aoula at 34%, Medi1 TV at 28% and Al Maghribia at 22%.

Among online brands, Le360 recorded weekly reach of 18%, followed by Al Aoula Online at 17% and Medi1 TV Online at 16%. Alyaoum24 and Al Ahdath Al Maghribia each reached 15%, while Assabah stood at 14% and Medi1 Radio at 13%.

Media24, Al3omk and Akhbarona each recorded online weekly reach of 12%.

The results underline the scale of the shift toward digital news consumption in Morocco, while also showing that audiences continue to concentrate around a limited number of established brands despite a fragmented online market.

The Reuters Institute report is based on survey responses and measures reported weekly use and trust among participants rather than audited website traffic.
