Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan presided over the opening ceremony of the 17th Mohammed VI International Athletics Meeting on Sunday evening in Rabat and attended the competition at one of the premier events on the global track and field calendar.
The meeting, organized by the Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation, is part of the prestigious Diamond Leaguecircuit.
Upon arriving at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, the crown prince was welcomed by Minister of National Education, Preschool and Sports Mohamed Saad Berrada, President of the Moroccan National Olympic Committee Fayçal Laraichi, and Rabat-Salé-Kénitra regional governor Mohamed Yacoubi.
This year’s edition featured strong competition among some of the world’s leading track and field athletes, with participants representing more than 40 countries.
The turnout of elite international competitors further underscored the growing stature of the Rabat meeting, which has become one of the most prominent athletics events on the international calendar and Africa’s only Diamond League stop.
