The Moroccan economy’s growth is expected to reach 4.2% by the end of 2026, forecasts the African Development Bank (AfDB).

This development is driven by household consumption and infrastructure investments, the AfDB notes in its 2026 African Economic Outlook report, published during the Bank’s Annual Meetings taking place until May 29 in Brazzaville.

According to the same source, agriculture, manufacturing, construction, and tourism are expected to remain the main drivers of national economic growth.

As for inflation, it is expected to remain under control, rising to 2.4% in 2026 and 2.3% in 2027.

Conversely, the current account deficit is projected to widen to 3.5% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2026 before retreating slightly to 3.4% in 2027, while the budget deficit is expected to continue its decline, settling at 3.7% of GDP in 2026 and then 3.2% in 2027.

In its report, the AfDB also highlights the strong growth that African stock markets have experienced over the past two decades, with activity reaching $1.2 trillion and concentrated in a few countries, notably Morocco, Egypt, and South Africa.

The report mentions maritime traffic disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, which would affect the region’s exports to the Middle East, increase input costs for fertilizers, and drive up energy costs for net importers of petroleum products.

Proactive management of climate risks and the diversification of trade would mitigate this impact, while a good harvest and sustained investments would improve the outlook, the AfDB estimates.
