Police in North Carolina have released body camera footage showing the fatal shooting of a 48-year-old Moroccan man, Said Ezzine, during a trespassing call in August 2025.
The footage, published on 18 May 2026 on Youtube, has reignited debate over the use of deadly force for non-dangerous offenses.
The incident took place on 5 August 2025 in Greensboro County, after Officer Lewis J. Wyatt responded to a resident’s complaint about a man trespassing on a nearby property.
The five‑minute clip shows Ezzine in an abnormal state as he continued to refuse to comply with the officer’s commands. “Come here, man. I just need to talk to you,” Wyatt said as Ezzine walked away agitatedly.
The clip shows Ezzine first grabbed a metal lock, then a saw blade, and finally a large pipe wrench, with the officer briefly drawing his Taser.
Greensboro Police Chief Kamran Afzal explained that federal court regulations prohibit using a Taser unless there is a serious, imminent threat.
The situation later escalated as Ezzine was moving toward the officer with a pipe wrench, with the latter repeatedly ordering him to drop the weapon. “I will shoot you, I will shoot you right now, bro,” the officer said before firing four shots.
Ezzine collapsed behind the house and died at the scene despite police efforts to save his life, according to the Greensboro Police Department.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation conducted an independent criminal investigation, concluding that the officer’s use of deadly force was legally justified by law.
