Morocco is increasingly positioning itself as a stable tourism destination as ongoing unrest in the Middle East reshapes global travel patterns, according to a recent report by The Traveler.
The report said escalating tensions in the Middle East, particularly those affecting regional airspace, maritime shipping lanes and international travel routes, are increasingly influencing global tourism flows.
These disruptions are prompting travelers and industry operators to reassess destinations across the eastern Mediterranean and Gulf regions.
As a result, a growing number of travelers are turning toward alternative destinations perceived as safer and more stable. Morocco has emerged as a preferred option, benefiting from its relative stability and established reputation as a culturally rich destination.
Cities such as Marrakesh, Agadir, Fez and Tangier were highlighted as attractive alternatives that remain accessible within similar flight ranges for European and other international travelers.
The report also emphasized Morocco’s strong air connectivity with Europe, which has helped the country avoid major disruptions despite regional instability.
Flights linking Morocco with key European markets continue to operate normally, supporting consistent tourist inflows and reinforcing the kingdom’s role as a reliable gateway between continents.
Airlines have also expanded capacity to major Moroccan hubs, including Casablanca, Marrakesh and Agadir, from key international markets such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany and the United States.
According to the report, this expanded network strengthens Morocco’s position by allowing travelers to bypass high-risk air corridors and unstable transit regions.
The geopolitical shift has accelerated Morocco’s post-pandemic tourism recovery beyond initial projections.
According to data cited by The Traveler, Morocco welcomed approximately 17.4 million international visitors in 2024, marking a 20% increase compared with 2023.
The upward trend continued into early 2025, reinforcing Morocco’s position as one of Africa’s most dynamic and resilient tourism economies.
Morocco is also seeking to capitalize on this momentum to advance its long-term tourism ambitions. In preparation for co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, the government has launched multibillion-dirham investment programs focused on airport expansion, coastal resort development and the restoration of heritage cities.
