Morocco has ramped up its health screening programs within the prison system for 2025. Following more than 11,000 tests, authorities identified 15 new HIV cases, maintaining a stable infection rate of 0.13%. Officials emphasize that the rise in identified cases is a direct result of expanded testing rather than an increase in transmission.
The program currently supports 411 inmates living with HIV, with 92% receiving antiretroviral therapy and 66% accessing psychological care. Outreach efforts have also reached 30% of the total prison population, providing education on hepatitis and other infectious diseases.
Preventative measures remain a priority, achieving a 90% coverage rate for pregnant inmates to prevent mother-to-child transmission. By strengthening these diagnostic tools, the administration aims to ensure rapid medical intervention and maintain public health safety across all correctional facilities.
