Morocco’s head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, arrived Sunday in Nairobi to represent King Mohammed VI at the Africa-France summit “Africa for the Future” and the fourth summit of heads of state and government of the Congo Basin Climate Commission and the Congo Basin Blue Fund.
The meetings are scheduled to take place on May 11 and 12 in the Kenyan capital and will bring together African and international leaders to discuss economic cooperation and climate-related challenges.
Akhannouch was received upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport by Kenyan Minister for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programs Geoffrey Ruku, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Abraham Korir Sing’Oei, and Morocco’s ambassador to Kenya and South Sudan, Abdelrazak Laassel.
The Moroccan delegation includes Leila Benali, minister of energy transition and sustainable development; Amine Tahraoui, minister of health and social protection; and Karim Zidane, minister delegate in charge of investment, convergence and public policy evaluation.
A business delegation from the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises is also participating, led by its president Chakib Alj and comprising several private sector stakeholders.
The Africa-France summit will focus on strengthening balanced and tangible partnerships, with discussions expected to center on investment, economic development, training and coordinated responses to global challenges.
The Congo Basin Climate Commission summit will precede a donors’ roundtable dedicated to the Blue Fund for the Congo Basin, scheduled for May 26 in Brazzaville. The Nairobi meeting is expected to conclude with the adoption of a resource mobilization strategy, along with political and technical documents prepared.
