The League of Supporters of Autonomy in the Saharan Provinces (LSAPSM) condemned projectiles that landed on Tuesday near the city of Smara, calling on the Algerian regime to stop fueling tensions and supporting extremism in the region.

In a statement, the league said the “reckless and hostile act does not only pose a direct threat to unarmed civilians but also constitutes a blatant attack on public order and undermines regional stability.”

It also noted that the incident violates the ceasefire and attempts to disrupt de-escalation efforts, at a time of growing international momentum led by the UN and major powers, including the United States, to end the dispute.

The league rejected the use of border areas for terrorist activities, stressing that protecting national sovereignty and preserving collective security remain the top priority and best response to destabilization attempts.

It also highlighted the shift in the UN Security Council’s position, reflected in resolutions 2703 to 2797, establishing the autonomy plan as the only realistic basis for negotiations, stressing that “any military action outside this framework is a futile attempt to undermine international consensus on a political solution.”

The league emphasized that the use of projectiles will not halt development or legitimacy, urging Algeria to rein in the militias it supports and arms and to comply with international legitimacy and the will of the majority of Sahrawis.

The incident comes amid a fragile ceasefire in the Sahara, where tensions have periodically resurfaced despite international efforts to stabilize the situation.

Three projectiles landed in separate areas outside populated zones, including near a local prison and in an open area behind the city cemetery, with no casualties or material damage reported.
