Members of the United Nations mission in the Sahara (MINURSO) have conducted field inspections at sites where projectiles landed near the city of Smara, following reported fire from east of the security berm.
According to a source cited by Hespress, the team visited three impact points, including areas near the city’s prison and a nearby open zone, collecting technical data on the strikes, damage and type of munitions used. No casualties or material losses were reported.
MINURSO is tasked with monitoring ceasefire violations and reporting developments to the UN Secretary-General.
Similar incidents have been recorded in recent years, including rocket fire near Smara and MINURSO sites, reflecting ongoing low-intensity hostilities despite the formal ceasefire framework.
The mission is expected to compile a report on the latest incident as part of its monitoring mandate amid continued efforts to contain escalation and sustain the UN-led political process.
