Security tightened as FAR Rabat face Ittihad Tangier following fan clashes

FAR Rabat will travel to face Ittihad Tangier on Sunday evening in a highly anticipated Botola Pro clash at the Grand Stadium of Tangier, with security concerns dominating the buildup following violent crowd disturbances during last week’s Classico against Raja Casablanca.

According to information obtained by Hespress AR, security authorities in Tangier are preparing extensive measures to ensure the match proceeds safely and under normal conditions, aided by the Professional Football League’s decision to ban the travel of away supporters.

The National Professional Football League announced a series of precautionary measures in response to the recent unrest, including the closure of designated sections for visiting fans and the suspension of ticket sales intended for supporters of the away team.

League officials also confirmed that away supporter travel will remain suspended in upcoming fixtures, saying the measures are aimed at “ensuring the normal conduct of competitions and strengthening safety and security conditions inside stadiums, in a way that protects all components of the game and preserves the sporting atmosphere based on respect and fair competition.”

The league called on all stakeholders, especially supporters, to act responsibly and contribute positively to maintaining the image of Moroccan football and reinforcing what it described as its “civilized and sporting dimension.”

The latest restrictions come after Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat witnessed serious clashes and violence on Thursday night during the match between FAR Rabat and Raja Casablanca in the 17th round of the professional league.

The unrest, which extended beyond the stadium into nearby neighborhoods, reignited debate over away fan travel and stadium security, with authorities placing renewed focus on crowd control measures as the season enters a crucial stage.
