Moroccans’ poultry meat consumption has reached a record 23.6 kg per person in 2025, up from just 17.2 kg in 2010, according to recent figures from the Moroccan Poultry Federation (FISA) shared in the 18th International Agriculture Show (SIAM) in Meknes, held from April 20 to 28.
The figure marks the highest recorded in the past 15 years, with annual poultry meat consumption in Morocco rising steadily from 17.2 kg in 2010 to 22.9 kg in 2019, before dropping to 19.2 kg in 2020 during the COVID-19 period.
FISA said the sector now meets all domestic demand for poultry meat, which accounts for 55% of total meat consumption, as well as 100% of demand for table eggs.
This comes as total investment in the poultry sector reached MAD 15.3 billion in 2025, with a turnover of around MAD 48 billion and over 180,000 direct jobs.
Table egg consumption also increased over the past 15 years, reaching 191 eggs per person in 2025, up from just 138 in 2010.
Yet, in 2019, consumption stood at its highest level of 195 per individual before dropping during the COVID-19 period to 177 in 2020 and 171 in 2021.
The rebound in egg consumption also coincided with higher table egg production in 2025, which reached around 7.06 billion units, compared with just 3.70 billion in 2010.
Production however, had declined during the COVID-19 period, falling to 5.5 billion units in 2020, after reaching 6.10 billion in 2019, before recovering gradually in the post-pandemic years.
Poultry meat production also reached record levels in 2025, with 654,000 tons of broiler meat and 174,000 tons of turkey, compared with 440,000 tons and 70,000 tons, respectively, in 2011.
Exports, on the other hand, declined in 2025, with hatching egg exports falling to 55.23 million, down from 67.18 million in 2024 and 68.65 million in 2022.
Exports of day-old chicks also dropped to 1.369 million units, compared with 2.89 million in 2022 and 2.358 million in 2021.
Still, FISA, which brings together five professional associations in the poultry sector, said the industry still holds strong export potential.
It recalled that Morocco began exporting poultry products in 2009, with volumes gradually increasing, particularly toward African markets such as Mauritania, Mali, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Benin, Gabon, Tunisia, and the Central African Republic, in addition to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Exported products include poultry feed, hatching eggs, day-old chicks for broilers and layers, turkey poults, table eggs, and processed poultry products.
