Olympique de Marseille have been dealt a major setback after Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd was ruled out for the remainder of the season due to injury.
Media reports said Aguerd will not return to action before the end of the 2025-2026 campaign, despite earlier hopes of a comeback during the final stretch of the season.
The prolonged absence is due to a complex pubic injury that required surgery on March 12. While the club’s medical staff initially expected the defender to return by May at the latest, further examinations revealed a fracture in the pubic bone, necessitating a longer rehabilitation period.
As a result, Aguerd has been officially ruled out for the rest of the season.
His absence is a significant blow to Marseille, where he has been a key figure in defense since joining the club. It also puts the coaching staff under pressure as the team continues its push in Ligue 1, particularly in the race for places that qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
The injury also raises concerns about Aguerd’s availability for the Morocco national football team in upcoming competitions, including the FIFA World Cup, if he does not fully recover in time.
