The BBC is preparing to cut up to 2,000 jobs, or about 10% of its 21,500 strong workforce, in what would be its biggest round of redundancies in 15 years.
According to The Guardian, staff were due to be told of the cuts at an all staff meeting on Wednesday afternoon, with interim director general Rhodri Talfan Davies expected to outline the plans.
The reductions would mark the broadcaster’s largest job cuts since 2011 and come weeks before former Google executive Matt Brittin is due to take over as director general in May.
The move points to mounting pressure on the BBC as it tries to reduce costs and reshape operations at a time of wider disruption in the media industry.
