Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, a key driving force behind Paris Saint-Germain’s attacking play, is rediscovering his best form as the Parisian club enters the final stretch of the UEFA Champions League, sports daily L’Équipe wrote on Thursday.
“Full-backs Hakimi and Nuno Mendes were key engines of Parisian attacking play on Wednesday against Liverpool FC in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals (2–0). The two continue to reinvent the role,” the French newspaper noted in an article titled ‘Two all-terrain full-backs guiding PSG toward a new European epic.’
Commenting on the Moroccan right-back’s performance, the publication highlighted his decisive role and the way-much like in spring 2025-he interpreted his position against the English club. “In his inward and outward runs, in his availability at the heart of play, there was a clear link with the player who had already undone English clubs last year,” the article’s author noted.
The variety in the full-backs’ play is one of the defining tactical hallmarks of the Luis Enrique era, whatever the long-term outcome, the newspaper added. “What Hakimi and Mendes have been consistently producing, in different styles, for at least two years, places them directly among the best full-backs in the history of the capital club,” the outlet stressed.
