Speaker of Morocco’s House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami is representing His Majesty King Mohammed VI on Tuesday in Lyon at the international One Health Summit, which brings together various stakeholders.

The Moroccan delegation includes Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali, senior officials from said ministry as well as from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, and the Kingdom’s Consul General in Lyon Rajae Benchaji.

The One Health Summit brings together, for the first time, Heads of State and government from around the world, representatives of relevant international and regional organizations, parliamentarians, scientists, representatives of the private sector, civil society, local authorities, development banks, and youth organizations to accelerate the implementation of the One Health approach.

This approach is based on the long-held understanding of interdependency between human health, animal health and ecosystem health. Recent health crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic have spotlighted the need for coordinated responses grounded in science, prevention, knowledge-sharing, and international cooperation.

The summit seeks to catalyze international and interdisciplinary dialogue on global challenges by implementing cooperation and research programs, and to help reshape the global institutional framework by fostering a shared One Health culture.

It also aims to engage all public and private stakeholders willing to commit to implementing actions and developing solutions to bolster health and monitoring systems, thereby preventing health, food, and environmental risks that affect populations.

The summit’s work is organized around four themes covering the main drivers of communicable and noncommunicable diseases, the importance of research and innovation, multilateral action and international partnerships, the central role of public-private partnerships, and the inclusive participation of civil society, local governments, and youth.
