Morocco will continue to experience unstable weather over the coming days and through the weekend, with thunderstorms, rain showers, and snow expected in mountainous areas, the National Meteorological Directorate said Thursday.
The directorate attributed the conditions to a clash of cold upper-air masses with humid air from the south, leading to highly variable weather. Snowfall is forecast over the High Atlas peaks, while rainfall and isolated thunderstorms will affect several regions, including the Middle and High Atlas, Saïs, the phosphate and diamond plateaus, and northern and central plains.
Friday is expected to see a noticeable drop in temperatures, particularly in mountainous areas, with continued unstable conditions and potential hail in parts of the High and Middle Atlas. Winds will be relatively strong in many regions, especially in the east and southeast, with dust possible in some areas.
The directorate highlighted that Saturday, likely to coincide with Eid al-Fitr, will remain relatively cold in the highlands, with rain continuing across the Atlantic plains north of Safi, Tangier, Loukkos, Rif, Saïs, the eastern region, Souss, and surrounding Atlas highlands. Snow will persist over the High and Middle Atlas, and scattered showers are possible in the southern regions.
From Sunday through mid-next week, weather is expected to remain variable, with intermittent periods of relative stability interspersed with scattered rain and cloud cover. Winds are forecast to remain moderately strong, particularly in southern provinces, Tangier, and some interior regions. Temperatures are expected to dip slightly on Tuesday before gradually rising starting Wednesday.
Communications official Hussein Youabed urged caution, particularly in mountainous regions and on roads prone to slipperiness or low visibility, noting that the dynamic weather pattern includes “occasional heavy thunderstorms and active winds, requiring heightened vigilance.”
