Morocco is the most frequent among eight Arab countries importing Russian energy since the Russia-Ukraine war, listed in three categories, namely, oil products, coal, and gas, according to a recent report by the Attaqa platform.
The report noted that Morocco was listed as an importer of Russian oil products, alongside Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, and the UAE.
It also appeared among coal importers along with Egypt, and for the 23rd consecutive month, the kingdom was listed among countries importing Russian pipeline gas.
This listing, the Attaqa platform argued, “is inaccurate, as Morocco has no direct pipeline connection with Russia but is linked to Spain via the Maghreb-Europe Pipeline.”
The report suggested that “this likely reflects Morocco importing Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) that is re-gasified in Spain before being sent to Morocco as natural gas through the Maghreb-Europe Pipeline.”
Overall, Russian energy export revenues rose 7% month-on-month in February 2026, reaching $567 million per day from crude oil, oil products, gas, and coal, with eight Arab countries among the importers.
The increase was driven by higher crude oil revenues, both seaborne and via pipeline, and rising gas revenues.
In August 2025, Morocco led African imports of Russian petroleum products, purchasing 188,000 tons, according to data from the energy platform Inco.
This marked an increase of over 50,000 tons from July 2025, placing Morocco at the forefront of African demand for Russian energy products.
