Morocco condemns Iranian attacks and backs Arab collective security

Morocco told an emergency Arab League ministerial meeting on Sunday that the security of Gulf Arab states is inseparable from its own, as Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita condemned what he described as Iranian attacks on Arab countrieS.

Speaking by video link at the extraordinary session, Bourita said King Mohammed VI has consistently viewed the stability of Gulf states as part of Morocco’s own national security.

“What harms you harms us, and what affects us affects you,” Bourita said, recalling the king’s remarks at the Morocco Gulf summit on April 20, 2016.

Bourita said Morocco’s position reflects a longstanding policy of solidarity with Arab states, particularly in the Gulf, and referred to telephone calls previously held by the king with Gulf leaders as evidence of that support.

The minister strongly condemned the attacks attributed to Iran against Arab states, describing them as a flagrant violation of sovereignty and a direct threat to regional security. He said Morocco fully supports the affected countries in any legitimate measures they consider necessary to protect their citizens, residents and territorial integrity.

Bourita also accused Iran of pursuing destabilizing policies across the region through armed groups and militias loyal to Tehran, saying such actions threaten the sovereignty and stability of neighboring states.

He said stronger Arab coordination through the Arab League remained the best way to protect collective security, preserve sovereignty and confront regional threats.

Bourita called for an immediate halt to the attacks and urged Arab states to adopt a firm and united position against actions that threaten regional stability.

At the same time, he said space must be preserved for diplomacy and dialogue to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation in the region.
