Spain’s net natural gas imports fell 5.9 percent year on year in January 2026 to 30,525 gigawatt hours, according to data published by CORES, Spain’s strategic reserves agency. Total imports slipped 3.3 percent to 34,314 GWh.
The United States was Spain’s leading supplier, accounting for 44.5 percent of deliveries with 15,284 GWh, up 46.2 percent from a year earlier. Algeria ranked second with 29.4 percent of supply, followed by Russia at 12.7 percent.
CORES data showed pipeline imports rose 21.9 percent while liquefied natural gas imports fell 16.6 percent.
Spain’s gas exports rose 24 percent to 3,789 GWh in January. Portugal was the top destination with 941 GWh, followed by Turkey with 868 GWh and Morocco with 822 GWh, equal to 21.7 percent of total Spanish gas exports.
