Spain’s arms exports to Morocco rose 40.4% in 2025 to €29.6 million, up from €21.08 million a year earlier, Spanish outlet OKDIARIO reported, citing data from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Trade.
The shipments included nearly €1.8 million in what were classified as war weapons, more than €100,000 in rifles and firearms, and over €12 million in accessories for military weapons, according to the report. The largest category (bombs, grenades and torpedoes) accounted for approximately €15 million.
Exports of weapons components and related materials to Morocco exceeded €8 million in 2025, the report said.
The increase comes as Spain debates defense spending levels and broader arms trade policies. The Spanish government has opposed raising defense spending to 5% of gross domestic product and has imposed restrictions affecting Israel’s defense industry, blocking certain imports and exports.
Morocco, meanwhile, plans to raise its 2026 defense budget to 73 billion dirhams ($7.3 billion), a 4.8% increase from 2025, as it expands personnel expenditures, modernizes equipment and strengthens border infrastructure.
In 2024, Spain’s arms exports to Morocco surged more than 1,200% compared with 2023, rising to €21 million from €1.5 million the previous year, according to the same data cited by OKDIARIO.
By contrast, Spain imported €1,277 worth of arms-related items from Morocco in 2024, primarily historical or ceremonial weapons such as muskets, sabers and bayonets, the report said.
