Sectoral social dialogue in Morocco’s agriculture sector gained momentum after a Feb. 17 meeting in Rabat between the agriculture minister and the National Federation of the Agricultural Sector, affiliated with the Moroccan Labour Union, to review pending statutory and financial files.
In a statement issued Feb. 19, the union said the talks revisited agreements signed in February and April 2024 and February 2025 whose implementation remains incomplete.
Priority was given to accelerating adoption of statutes for several public institutions, including the National Office for Food Safety, the Agricultural Development Agency, the Hassan II Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine and other sector bodies. The minister pledged to liaise with the budget department to finalize the texts in line with prior understandings, the union said.
Financial agreements concerning staff at the National Agency for Water and Forests were also discussed, alongside diploma reclassification, social works funding, administrative harmonization and human resource gaps.
The union said the minister confirmed plans to gradually align the agricultural minimum wage with other sectors by 2028. It welcomed the “positive atmosphere” but stressed that implementation hinges on budget arbitration.
