A Moroccan medical student living in Romania was involuntarily hospitalized this month following a court order, after authorities determined she posed a potential risk to herself or others, according to a reliable Hespress EN source.
The 25-year-old student who claims she has been living in Iași for the past seven years, is currently being held at the Socola Clinical Psychiatry Hospital, the source said.
The Hespress EN source said the girl was hospitalized after displaying what it described as “inappropriate and aggressive behavior” in a public place and refusing voluntary admission, prompting authorities to seek a court order for involuntary hospitalization on Feb. 12, 2026, in accordance with Romanian law.
According to the source, girl was found walking in her pajamas at Palas Mall, where initial assessments raised concerns about possible self-harm or harm to others, meeting the legal threshold for emergency psychiatric intervention.
In a video circulating on social media, the Moroccan national said she is being held against her will and treated “as though she were mentally unstable.” She appealed to Moroccan authorities to intervene, saying the situation had become overwhelming for her.
Local media reported that the girl’s mother and sister have also called on authorities to intervene and facilitate her return to Morocco.
The source said a medical reassessment committee reviewed her condition earlier this week and concluded that she was not fit for release at this stage. A new evaluation is scheduled in approximately one week, according to the same source.
Her relatives told local media outlets that she studied general medicine for six years in Romania, and is currently specializing in dermatology.
