Moroccan grains traders and millers expect the country’s cereals harvest to nearly double this season to between 8 and 9 million metric tons after abundant winter rainfall, industry officials told Reuters, despite localized flood damage in the northwest of the country.
Omar Yacoubi, head of Morocco’s wheat trading federation FNCL, said soft wheat output could reach around 5 million tons, compared with a total cereals harvest of 4.4 million tons last year, including 2.4 million tons of soft wheat. Moulay Abdelkader Alaoui, head of the federation of industrial millers FNM, estimated domestic wheat production at about 6 million tons and said millers plan to add local wheat to strategic reserves without reducing imports.
