Supporters of the Senegal national football team launched an online fundraiser to help coach Pape Thiaw pay a $100,000 fine imposed on him by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after the controversial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
The campaign, organized on social media and crowdfunding platforms, quickly gathered contributions from thousands of people hoping to show solidarity with the coach.
In a message posted on Instagram, Thiaw thanked Senegalese supporters for their generosity but asked them not to continue the fundraiser in his name.
He said he was deeply touched by their support but urged people to redirect the money to more urgent causes and help those in need.
The fine and a five‑match suspension were part of disciplinary sanctions handed down by CAF for Thiaw’s conduct during the final.
Thiaw instructed his players to leave the pitch late in the match in protest after a penalty was awarded to Morocco, leading to a temporary walk‑off.
During the disruption, some Senegalese supporters threw objects and attempted to enter the field before police and security intervened and the game eventually resumed.
The disciplinary panel ruled that Thiaw’s actions violated fair play and integrity codes, alongside sanctions against players and the Senegalese Football Federation.
