Senegal has dismissed head coach Pape Thiaw and his technical staff after the country’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Senegalese Football Federation said.
The federation’s executive committee decided to terminate Thiaw’s tenure following a review of Senegal’s performance after the team was knocked out in the Round of 32 by Belgium.
In a statement, the federation said the decision was taken in the interest of Senegalese football as it begins preparations for the next competitive cycle and seeks to rebuild the national team.
Federation president Abdoulaye Fall was tasked with formally notifying Thiaw in accordance with contractual and legal procedures and overseeing a broader restructuring of the country’s national teams.
The federation said the overhaul forms part of a wider plan to reorganize Senegalese football at multiple levels.
Fall is scheduled to hold a news conference on Monday at Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor to explain the decision, assess Senegal’s World Cup campaign and outline the federation’s plans for the future.
Thiaw’s dismissal makes Senegal one of the first teams to change coaches following the 2026 World Cup.
