Morocco’s inflation rate ended 2025 at a relatively stable level, recording a 0.8% increase compared with 2024, the country’s official statistics agency said Thursday.
The High Commission for Planning (HCP) said the annual consumer price index rose 0.8% in 2025, mirroring the rise in the core inflation index, which excludes regulated and volatile items.
The HCP said the consumer price index fell 0.1% in December compared with November, while the core inflation index dropped 0.2% for the month.
The December decline was driven by a 0.3% decrease in food prices, while non-food prices remained stable.
Among food items, the HCP said prices fell for oils and fats (3.9%), fruits (8.2%) and meat (1.2%). Prices rose for fish and seafood (3.3%), vegetables (2.8%), dairy, cheese and eggs (0.6%), and coffee, tea and cocoa (0.4%).
For non-food items, the agency said fuel prices dropped 0.5%.
The annual rise in 2025 was attributed to an increase of 0.8% in food prices and 0.5% in non-food prices. The report noted a 2.6% decline in transportation prices and a 3.3% rise in restaurant and hotel prices.
The HCP said inflation varied across cities, with the highest annual increases recorded in Fes (1.7%), Kenitra (1.3%) and Guelmim (1.2%). Other cities saw smaller increases, including Casablanca (0.7%), Rabat (0.9%), and Marrakech (0.2%).
The report highlighted that the consumer price index is not uniform across the country, reflecting regional differences in price movements.
