Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology forecast relatively cold to locally cold weather across much of the country on Friday, January 16, 2026, particularly over the Atlas Mountains, the Rif, the southeast and the high plateaus.

The agency said rain or locally thundery showers are expected in the Rif, Tangier area, Loukkos, the Mediterranean coast, Saiss, the Atlas ranges and their neighbouring western plains, as well as the Atlantic plains north of Essaouira.

Partly cloudy skies with light rain are forecast for Souss, the northern southern provinces and the eastern region.
Snowfall is expected over the Rif and the High and Middle Atlas at elevations above 1,300 metres, and over the high plateaus above 1,600 metres. Locally strong wind gusts are also forecast in the south, the Mediterranean coast and the Atlas ranges.

Minimum temperatures will range from minus 6 to minus 1 degrees Celsius in the Atlas, 0 to 4 degrees in the Rif and eastern region, and 11 to 16 degrees near the coast.
