Moroccan authorities on Tuesday denied entry to three Spanish nationals upon their arrival at Hassan I Airport, citing concerns linked to activities deemed hostile to Morocco’s territorial integrity, according to sources cited by Hespress.
The individuals arrived in Laayoune on a commercial flight from Las Palmas operated by Binter Canarias, the sources said. Authorities ordered their immediate return after reviewing information related to the purpose of their visit.
The three activists were identified as Ramírez Marrero Carmelo, Ruiz Pérez Fernando and Santana Pereira Noemi.
Moroccan authorities said the decision followed confirmation that they intended to carry out activities in Laayoune aligned with the agenda of the Polisario Front.
According to the sources, the activists presented themselves as human rights defenders and attempted to use that status to engage in activities without prior authorization or coordination with Moroccan authorities, a requirement under local regulations governing foreign visitors.
Moroccan officials said respect for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is a non-negotiable condition for entry and activity on national territory, including in the southern provinces, and that violations are addressed through the application of existing legal procedures.
