Bad weather shuts down Salé CAN 2025 fan zone as safety measures tighten
Sunday 4 January 2026 - 12:42

Authorities on Saturday ordered the closure of the fan zone set up at Bab El Mrissa in Salé due to severe weather conditions forecast across several parts of the country.

The decision follows weather alerts warning of an incoming Atlantic depression expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds. As a precaution, the giant screen used to broadcast matches of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations was dismantled to eliminate any safety risks.

A heavy security presence was deployed at the site, with police and auxiliary forces mobilized to secure the area and prevent potential incidents during the closure.

Similar measures were taken in other cities hosting fan zones, which were also temporarily shut down as part of a nationwide preventive approach aimed at protecting supporters.

Authorities stressed that the closures are strictly precautionary and linked to public safety concerns, adding that fan zones will reopen once weather conditions improve and risks subside.
