Senegal opened its Africa Cup of Nations 2025 campaign with a convincing 3-0 victory over Botswana in Group D at the Grand Stade de Tanger in Morocco on Tuesday.
Striker Nicolas Jackson scored twice, opening the scoring just before halftime and adding a second early in the second half. Cherif Ndiaye capped the win with a late goal to secure all three points.
Senegal dominated possession and finished with 28 attempts on goal, rarely threatened by Botswana. The Lions of Teranga now lead Group D ahead of DR Congo after Congo’s 1-0 win over Benin in the other group match.
Senegal, 2021 champions and among tournament favorites, controlled the match from the start and delivered a disciplined performance to set the tone for their CAN 2025 campaign.
