Comoros national team coach Stefano Cusin said his side will continue to improve, considering that the Atlas Lions remain favorites to win the Africa Cup of Nations.
“I am proud of my players, most of whom are young. We gave a good image of Comoros and we will continue to improve,” Cusin said at a press conference following his team’s 2–0 defeat to the Atlas Lions in the opening match of AFCON Morocco 2025.
“Defensively, we were solid and tactically well organized. Morocco have a very strong team,” he added, noting that his side managed to contain the Moroccan team in the first half.
“The Moroccan team is extremely competitive. It is the best team in Africa and among the best in the world,” he stressed.
According to Stefano Cusin, Comoros aim to go as far as possible in the competition, while acknowledging that Morocco and Comoros do not have the same potential.
Morocco defeated Comoros 2–0, with the opening goal scored by Brahim Diaz in the 55th minute, before Ayoub El Kaabi doubled the lead with a spectacular overhead kick in the 74th minute.
Thanks to this victory, Morocco (3 points) temporarily move to the top of Group A.
The second group match will pit Mali against Zambia on Monday at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca.
