The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has opened a new chapter for its youth national teams, appointing Mohamed Ouahbi as head coach of the Olympic squad, federation president Fouzi Lekjaa announced Monday.

The appointment was unveiled during an international conference at the Faculty of Legal, Economic and Social Sciences in Rabat, held under the theme “Sports and Development in Africa.” Lekjaa said the federation aims to inject new energy into its youth structures as part of a broader strategy to strengthen national teams.

Ouahbi is expected to lead a generation preparing for a decisive stage: the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Officials say the federation is prioritizing continuity and building on recent achievements across age-group teams.

The coach’s nomination follows the standout success he achieved with Morocco’s under-20 team. Ouahbi guided the “Atlas Cubs” to a historic victory at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, securing the title after a dramatic win against Argentina in the final.

Ouahbi reportedly received multiple offers after the youth World Cup triumph, but the federation moved to retain him and task him with a new project at the Olympic level.

His appointment follows another milestone for Moroccan football: Tarik Sektioui’s historic performance with the Moroccan Olympic team at the Paris 2024 Games, where the squad delivered the country’s best Olympic football showing to date.

The federation says the latest coaching decisions reflect a long-term commitment to developing competitive squads across all youth categories.
