Princess Lalla Meryem, president of the National Observatory for the Rights of the Child, presided on Saturday over the closing ceremony of the first African Child Parliament forum at the House of Representatives. The event was held under the patronage of King Mohammed VI and framed within Morocco’s Africa-focused cooperation agenda that places youth participation at the center of development initiatives.
Upon arrival, Princess Lalla Meryem was received by senior state officials, including the speaker of the House, the delegate president of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary, the prosecutor general at the Court of Cassation, regional and municipal leaders, and representatives of partner African parliaments.
The Princess visited five thematic workshops led by child parliamentarians from African countries and Morocco. Sessions addressed children’s participation in public policy, equitable education, access to health and mental health, child labor, and protection from street vulnerability and early marriage.
Delegates approved the “Rabat Declaration on Children’s Participation in Africa”, establishing the African Child Rights Network headquartered at the National Observatory for the Rights of the Child. A group photo concluded the ceremony.
