Morocco’s consumer price index rose by 0.1% in October compared with the same month last year, while recording a month-to-month decline of 0.6% from September, the High Commission for Planning (HCP) said in a new bulletin.
The annual increase reflects a 0.3% drop in food prices and a 0.4% rise in nonfood items, the HCP reported. Price changes for nonfood goods ranged from a 1.9% decline in the transportation sector to a 2.4% increase in restaurants and hotels.
The monthly decrease was driven mainly by a 1.3% drop in food prices, while nonfood prices remained stable.
The steepest monthly declines were recorded in “oils and fats” (-3.7%), “meat” (-2.8%), “vegetables” (-1.4%), “fish and seafood” (-1.3%), “fruits” (-0.9%), and “milk, cheese and eggs” (-0.2%). Prices for “coffee, tea and cocoa” rose slightly by 0.2%. Among nonfood products, “fuels” fell by 0.6%.
Regionally, the biggest monthly decrease was reported in Al Hoceima at 1.5%, followed by Settat and Safi at 1%. Prices fell by 0.9% in both Tetouan and Beni Mellal, while Kenitra posted the only increase at 0.2%.
