Agriculture Minister vows action against feed price manipulation in livestock program
Thursday 20 November 2025 - 19:33

Morocco’s Agriculture Minister Ahmed Bouari said Thursday that authorities will hold accountable anyone attempting to manipulate or hoard animal feed prices, amid a rise in costs coinciding with the rollout of the country’s royal herd-restocking program.

“We will not tolerate anyone trying to sabotage the royal program by manipulating feed prices or monopolizing them,” Bouari told Hespress AR.

The ministry monitors feed prices daily across all regions through the Asaar system, which tracks market, retail, and distribution center prices. Bouari said any irregularities that threaten the program’s implementation will be addressed immediately.

The program provides direct support to livestock farmers to purchase feed and maintain female sheep and goats, prioritizing small-scale breeders. The first installment, launched Nov. 5, provides 100 MAD per animal, totaling MAD 3 billion and benefiting roughly 714,000 farmers — about 73% of registered participants.

Bouari emphasized that the support is based on the national livestock census and forms part of broader efforts to restore balance to the livestock sector and strengthen food security amid climate challenges. The total budget for the 2025–2026 program is MAD 12.8 billion.
