Spain’s conservative Partido Popular has intensified its confrontation with the government’s policy toward Morocco, bringing the dispute into Parliament through new initiatives targeting the EU-Morocco agricultural agreement and positions related to the Sahara.
According to El Confidencial, the PP will file parliamentary motions questioning the accord and warning of what it calls harm to Spanish farmers, particularly in southern regions.
The party is also seeking explanations from the Sánchez government about how its close relationship with Rabat affects border security.
The move follows weeks of pressure campaigns in local councils across Murcia and parts of Andalusia, where PP officials have adopted hostile stances toward the updated EU Morocco farm deal.
A Moroccan diplomatic source, cited by the paper, expressed irritation at what it called an attempt by the PP to “militarize” the Sahara issue for domestic political gain.
