A Marrakech taxi driver has been stripped of his professional permit after refusing to pick up two Moroccan passengers during heavy rainfall, according to local media outlet Kech24.

The incident occurred in the old medina’s Riad Zitoun area, where the two men, who work in the local market, asked to be driven from  to Bab Doukkala.

The driver allegedly declined without explanation despite the bad weather, the report said.

Local authorities launched an inquiry after the passengers recorded the taxi’s number and reported the refusal.

The committee responsible for regulating taxi services revoked the driver’s “trust permit” upon confirming the violation.

Local media note that some taxi drivers in the city have been repeatedly accused of prioritizing foreign tourists over Moroccan residents.
