Morocco’s commercial rollout of fifth generation mobile services has reached 60 cities since the network went live on 7 November, according to official data shared with Hespress by a senior source.

The same source said operators have activated 6000 ground stations across the regions covered so far, with the number expected to rise to 8200 by the end of December.

He described the pace of deployment as exceptional given that licenses for fifth generation mobile networks were granted only three and a half months earlier.

About seven million active devices are already connected to the fifth generation network, including smartphones and tablets, reflecting rapid uptake among consumers during the first week of service.

The data also show that the country’s three operators, Maroc Telecom, Orange Maroc and Inwi, have introduced one hundred commercial offers for fifth generation services. These include plans linked to multimedia content and expanded data volumes.

Data allowances have increased significantly in the new pricing structures. Previous offers provided five gigabytes for fifty dirhams, while current plans provide eleven gigabytes for the same price. Postpaid plans have also seen a minimum data increase of twenty percent at unchanged tariffs. All offers remain compatible with both fourth and fifth generation networks.

The expansion comes as Morocco prepares to host major continental and international events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, in a period marked by rising investment in digital infrastructure.

Fifth generation services offer connection speeds above two gigabits per second and will initially cover large urban centers before extending to other regions. Compatible devices and SIM cards automatically connect to the new network.

Licenses for the fifth generation rollout were granted after the 25 July board meeting of the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency and following approval from the head of government of the agency’s report on network establishment and operation. Operator commitments focus on investment, coverage and service quality, with total deployment and operating costs expected to reach eighty billion dirhams by 2035.
