– The Minister Delegate in charge of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, announced on Monday before the House of Representatives the completion of the first phase of the National Plan for the Development of High and Very High Speed Broadband (PNHD), with more than 10,690 areas covered by 2G, 3G, and 4G telecommunications services out of a total of 10,740.
The second phase of this plan has been launched with the objective of covering and improving services for 2,000 new rural areas in 2026, Sghrouchni specified during the oral questions session.
She added that satellite technologies (VSAT) are being used in areas that are difficult to serve through terrestrial networks, noting that each customer can benefit from financial support of 2,500 dirhams per subscription, within a limit of 4,000 beneficiaries annually.
5G has been rolled out in more than 50 cities for the benefit of approximately 7 million subscribers, with operators committing to investments exceeding 80 billion dirhams by 2035 to develop and expand this service, in order to cover 45% of the population by 2026 and 85% by 2030, she pointed out.
She also stressed that efforts are ongoing to implement the national fiber optic plan, which aims to equip 5.6 million households by 2030, through strengthening infrastructure sharing among operators and adopting a ministerial decree requiring new housing developments and infrastructure to be equipped with fiber optics.
