Morocco has begun assembling women’s national rugby squads across all age groups as part of a broader effort to expand the sport and strengthen women’s participation, the Royal Moroccan Rugby Federation (FRMR) said. Morad El Arf, general manager for women’s teams, told state news agency MAP that Morocco is setting up 15-a-side and seven-a-side teams in the senior, U20 and cadet categories.
A first training camp for senior and cadet players was held from 7 to 9 November in Lormont in southwest France, supported by the Normand Rugby club.
The federation is conducting scouting efforts in major European leagues, identifying around 40 senior players competing in France’s Elite 1, Elite 2 and Fédérale 1 divisions, as well as profiles in Spain and England. El Arf said domestic talent would also be integrated as part of a national development pathway.
Morocco aims to enter upcoming international competitions, including the Africa Women’s Rugby Championship and the Arab Cup.
About 30 players from Morocco and French clubs such as Bordeaux, Clermont, Pau, Toulouse and Libourne took part in the recent camp as the federation works to establish a competitive national structure.
