Morocco’s Interior Ministry said it has reduced illicit cannabis cultivation areas by 85 percent, from about 134,000 hectares in 2003 to 20,627 hectares in 2025, as part of efforts to curb supply while implementing Law No. 13.21 on the legal uses of cannabis.

The ministry’s 2025 performance report, cited by Hespress, said authorities continue to ensure that no legally produced cannabis is diverted to illicit markets and to reduce demand through anti-trafficking operations.

The report said security services seized more than 344 tons of hashish, 112 tons of raw cannabis, 2.5 tons of cocaine, 17 kilograms of heroin, and over 1.5 million psychotropic pills in 2024. Between January and August 2025, seizures rose to 385 tons of hashish, 61 tons of cannabis, 788 kilograms of cocaine, and 1.26 million pills.

Authorities dismantled several trafficking networks and reinforced border and coastal surveillance, using advanced detection technology. The ministry highlighted rising concern over psychotropic pills, particularly among youth, and said preventive efforts now treat drug users as victims requiring care and rehabilitation.
