Morocco has the world’s lowest labor cost per vehicle at about 106 U.S. dollars, roughly 1,000 dirhams, according to a new report by global consultancy Oliver Wyman titled Getting Under the Hood of Automotive Labor Cost Per Vehicle.
The study, which surveyed more than 250 car assembly plants worldwide, found that Morocco surpassed Romania (273 dollars), Mexico (305 dollars), Turkey (414 dollars), and China (597 dollars) in cost efficiency.
The report attributes Morocco’s competitiveness to simplified production methods, advanced industrial infrastructure, and its proximity to European supply chains.
It estimates that labor costs represent between 65 and 70 percent of total vehicle conversion expenses. Between 2019 and 2024, Morocco’s car production grew by nearly 29 percent, the highest increase among all countries covered, reinforcing its position as a global hub for affordable, high-quality automotive manufacturing.
