A group of Moroccan human rights defenders has submitted a petition to King Mohammed VI, urging him to grant a royal pardon to the remaining detainees linked to the 2017 Al Hoceima protests, commonly known as the Hirak Rif movement.
The appeal was initiated by members of the Civil Initiative for the Rif, which includes prominent figures such as Mohamed Naciri Nashnash, a former member of the Equity and Reconciliation Commission and past president of the Moroccan Organization for Human Rights; Salah El Wadie; Abdessalam Boutayeb; Boubker Largou; Khadija Marouazi; Abdelkader El Alami; Safi El Bouazati; Tarek Nashnash; Mohamed Benmoussa; Khalid Bentahmi; and Nabil Baraka.
In their petition, the members expressed confidence in what they called the King’s “deep humanitarian sensibility” and said they believe such a gesture would carry significant meaning in the current context, which they described as a time requiring unity among all Moroccans to meet national challenges.
The appeal concluded with a message of loyalty and respect: “May Your Majesty accept our deepest expressions of esteem and affection. We pray for your long life, continued good health, and for the well-being of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan, and success in leading our beloved nation.”
