Moroccan health authorities have launched an investigation after a viral video allegedly showing worms inside meals served at Moulay Abdellah Hospital in Salé sparked outrage among medical staff and local residents.
Union sources told Hespress the footage was genuine and filmed by hospital employees, while the hospital’s director, Hicham Bahiri, denied any evidence linking the video to the facility, citing “scientific improbability” that worms could survive in hot soup.
Mostapha Zeroual, regional secretary of the Independent Union of Nurses and Health Technicians, said staff had repeatedly complained about poor food quality, including “dirty bread and foul smells.”
He called for an urgent inspection, saying “the situation has become unacceptable.”
Bahiri said a monitoring committee has been appointed to verify conditions in the hospital kitchen, adding that regular surprise inspections are conducted to ensure food safety standards.
